Hong Yan Pan, also known as Melody. she has been living in BC since 1998, Living in Delta since 2014. 

 She is a Registered Nurse in Canada and the USA. Previously, she also worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse in 2004 and a Health Care Assistant (Personal Support Worker) in 2002.

She possesses a Master of Science in Nursing in Leadership, as well as critical care, nephrology, and nursing educator specialty certificates. Currently, she is working on her application for Doctoral degree study in nursing and education field. 

 Melody has over 17 years of clinical experience in: Med/Surg, Pediatrics, Palliative Care, Hemodialysis, ICU, PACU, SDC, ER Decongestion pilot project, Community and Chronic Disease management. She has worked in nursing education and informatics fields for many years with extensive knowledge and skills on policy and curriculum development and evaluation process. 

Melody enjoys volunteering and serving the community. She is passionate about environmental protection, gender equality, domestic violence prevention, animal protection, culture and diversity, and senior services.  She is also a Navy Reservist. 

Her entire family is committed to serve and protect the most vulnerable. Her late father was a physician, her late mother was a lab technician, sister is a Registered Nurse, and niece is a social worker.  Melody was also a pharmacist before immigrating to Canada. The family believes that the opportunity to serving others is a privilege.  

Since moving to Delta, Melody has been involved in multiple volunteer roles, including participating in the “Adopt a Tree” program for over 4 years, and sitting on the City of Delta Environment Advisory Committee as an observer volunteer in 2018.

In 2017 and 2020, Melody coordinated neighborhood fundraising events for the donation of park benches and picnic tables installed in Wade Road park especially for senior to use. Both benches and table were inscribed with “ALL for one and One for ALL”.

Passionate about protecting the environment, in 2014, Melody helped to petition residents to preserve the five acres of green space attached to the former Richmond Steveston Secondary School. This work protected valuable land for public use instead of being turned over for townhouse development.

In collaboration with her nursing colleagues and professor at Trinity Western University, Melody and her team submitted a briefing to the Canada House of Commons on Canada Senior Service to provide nursing voices. They were invited by the Canada House of Commons HUMAN RESOURCES AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT AND THE STATUS OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES Committee (HUMA) to present in-person in Ottawa 2017. The team’s suggestions were referenced multiple times in the final report of Advancing Inclusion and Quality of Senior Life by the HUMA committee. 

As a tree hugger, Melody presented her project “Roles of Social Determinants of Health and Nursing Leadership in Climate Change Battle: Health Care Waste Minimization in Home Care Setting” at the 2019 International Nurses Congress conference.

Since the pandemic started, she has been tirelessly working at multiple local health care units and volunteering for multiple local and international non-governmental non-profit organizations.

Regardless of the result of this election, Melody will continue to serve humanity.
